2019 BMW Championship

Patrick Reed’s win last week at the Northern Trust was his fourth top 12 finish in his last six tournaments and has positioned him, along with Rory McIlroy, right behind leader Brooks Koepka at the top of the FedEx Cup standings. The victory also moved him from 17thin the President’s Cup standings to 12th.

The BMW Championship’s first round starts today at Medinah Country Club which is the final qualifying event for both the U.S. and International teams as well as the second of three FedEx Cup Playoff events. The players are jockeying for position to try to get themselves into the final 30 for next week’s Tour Championship.

All 70 golfers who have moved on to the BMW Championship will play the full four rounds at Medinah as there is no cut this week… Reed will likely need another victory this week to make the team. He was quoting Tiger when he said “It’s the same thing he always said: ‘Good golf takes care of itself. Go out and play well. Go out and play golf like you know how to play,'”

We can only hope that Medinah Country Club which is well known for producing dramatic story lines such as the 1999 PGA Championship and the 2012 Ryder’s Cup will give us more of the same this week.
