Game Stat 6-Pack

New England Patriots @ Los Angeles Rams

Thursday Dec 10, 2020 at 8:20 pm
Opening Line:  Los Angeles -6 with a total of 45
Projected weather: SoFi Stadium is a domed stadium so weather is not a factor

The 6-pack:

  1. New England is 6-6 SU, 6-6 ATS and 4-8 on the Over/Unders. The New Enland offense being led by first year Patriot QB Cam Newton is ranked well into the bottom half of the NFL. The are ranked 23rd in points per game at 22.8 and 22nd in total yards gained per game at 342.3. The Bill Belichick defense has played well especially of late ranking 12th in total yards allowed at 344.6 and 7th in points allowed at 21.3.
  2. The Patriot dismantling of the Los Angeles Chargers 45-0 last week was aided by some fortuitous help from the special teams including a 70-yard punt return TD and a FG block returned for a TD in addition to a long punt return to set up another TD. The total in the Patriots 6 road games this year has averaged 49.16 points.
  3. QB Cam Newton, CB J C Jackson and special teams player Matthew Slater along with 14 others were limited in practice on Tuesday. Newton threw for one TD and ran for 2 TDs in last week’s victory over the Chargers. This will be the first time these two teams have faced each other since New England’s dominating 13-3 victory in Super Bowl LIII. The Patriots did not have to travel since they played the Chargers last week in the same SoFi Stadium which they share with the Rams.
  4. The Rams are 8-4 SU, 6-6 ATS and 4-8 on the Over/Unders. The Rams offense ranks 17th in points per game at 25.1 and 3rd in yards gained per game at 395.3. This would indicate that they can move the ball up and down the field but have problems scoring once they are in the Red Zone. The defense has been a top 5 defense this year allowing points per game 20.3 points per game which ranks 5th and 291.3 total yards per game which ranks 2nd.
  5. Coach Sean McVay has admittedly laid awake many nights thinking about the Super Bowl loss and what he could have done different. You can be certain that Coach McVay and QB Jared Goff are looking forward to getting another chance against the Patriot defense and this New England defense is not near as good as the one in the Super Bowl two years ago.
  6. The Rams defense is 5-0 to the Under at home this season with an average of 35.8 points in those games. None have ended with a total of more than 43. Buffalo and Miami the two other AFC East teams that have beaten the Rams this season averaged scoring 31.5 points in their games vs the Rams in LA.

ProGambler says: Both teams are 7-2 to the Under in their last 9 games. But after looking at all of the opponents in those games and considering the revenge factor for the Rams if you throw out last week’s Charger game the Patriots have given up an average of 28.4 points per game. I recommend that you take Over 43.5.
