Portland Trailblazers @ Utah Jazz – Analysis and Pick

by John Smith

The Portland Trailblazers travel to Salt Lake City tonight to face the Utah Jazz. The Jazz at 50-19 have the NBA’s best record and a two-game lead on the Phoenix Suns with only three games left to play. After facing Portland tonight they have two road games remaining, in the regular season, against OKC and Sacramento. Utah star Donovan Mitchell will sit out the last three games of the regular season to try to get his injured right ankle healthy for the playoffs.
Portland and Dallas are in a tie for the fifth and sixth spots at 40-29 with the Lakers lurking one game back after last night’s OT win against the Knicks. The Lakers expect to get LeBron James back for tonight’s home game against Houston who has the NBA’s worst record at 16-53. The Lakers final two games are on the road in a back-to-back Saturday and Sunday at Indiana and New Orleans.
This is a big game for the Trailblazers, who have won four in a row and eight of their last nine. Utah is favored by 3.5 with a total of 235.5. The Jazz had their five-game winning streak snapped by Golden State on Monday night.
Utah won both of it’s previous matchups with Portland on Dec 23rd and April 8th. The Jazz had double-digit covers in the two victories and both of those games went under the total. The Blazers have gone under the total in two of their last three games. The Jazz have been a mixed bag on the total recently. They went over on their last four but under in eight of their previous eleven games.
Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley are both out for Utah. Carmelo Anthony is probable for tonight’s game so the Blazers are healthy. In his last five games Damian Lillard has scored 33, 32, 38, 30 and 34 points.

Take the Trailblazers +3.5.
