Arizona Cardinals Kyler Murray
Murray has shown tremendous poise, confidence in his first training camp and all that was on display Thursday night. He finished 6-of-7, and even the incompletion was actually caught, but wiped out by a penalty. The rookie spread his six completions out to four different receivers and showed touch and variety in his throws.
Murray did his part, completing six of his seven passes while showing some foot speed. He would have been 7-for-7 if KeeSean Johnson hadn’t taken a penalty for stepping out of bounds before catching the last throw.
Tonight, was a small first step in the Kyler Murray Era. But it was a certainly a good one.
New York Giants Daniel Jones
After Eli Manning got the start and went three-and-out, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones silenced the naysayers with his opening drive of the preseason. The sixth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft the Giants down the field for their first points of the pre-season.
On the drive, Jones looked very sharp, completing all five of his throws for 67 yards and that score. The 12-yard touchdown pass was a perfectly thrown ball that Bennie Fowlercaught in the back corner of the end zone.
It may be the dawn of a new era in New York but a lightning delay was issued with 1:23 remaining in the first quarter. Once both clubs got the all-clear to continue play, the Giants decided to go with Alex Tanney at quarterback instead of Jones.
Washington Redskins Dwayne Haskins
Dwayne Haskins the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft made his preseason debut Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns. In his first pro action, He checked into the game early in the second quarter and threw two interceptions, including a pick-six by Browns rookie linebacker Mack Wilson.
He had completions of 27 and 32 yards on one drive. But the drive ended when Darvin Kidsy fumbled after a 32-yard reception, and the Browns recovered. He threw his interception to Wilson on the following drive and also threw a pick to Browns rookie cornerback Greedy Williams later in the second quarter.
Haskins led Washington on a 14 play 63-yard drive in the second half that culminated in a field goal. He finished by completing eight of 14 passes for 117 yards as Cleveland cruised to a 30-10 victory over the Redskins.
Denver Broncos Drew Lock
Denver took a long look at rookie Drew Lock on Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks. Lock struggled in his debut last week against the Atlanta Falcons in the Hall of Fame game. He was much better against Seattle. Lock was 17 of 28 for 108 yards. He threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Devontae Jackson late in the fourth quarter, but later was intercepted after being hit with 2:01 left in the game
Miami Dolphins Josh Rosen
Josh Rosen, who was the 10thoverall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, completed 13 of 20 passes for 191 yards. He directed three scoring drives of more than 60 yards in his debut for the Miami Dolphins to help them win their exhibition opener Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, 34-27.
Rosen had one interception and played all of the second and third quarters. He made a variety of throws and looked very sharp, poised and confident except for the one bad decision when he threw late over the middle for the pick.
Indianapolis Colts Chad Kelly
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Chad Kelly scored on a 33-yard scamper and accounted for three scoring drives, including two field goals, after taking over midway through the third quarter. Kelly, who grew up in Buffalo, finished 13 of 19 for 121 yards and also had 53 yards rushing. His Pro Football Hall of Fame uncle Jim Kelly was watching in the stands,
