Who will take over the British throne after Queen Elizabeth II? Prince Charles is the heir apparent, but there’s a long list of people behind him. In January 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced plans to pare back their royal duties. However, those plans do not include an abdication and they remain in the line of succession.
